Webtoon, Espotlight Ink Spanish-Language Wattpad Adaptation Deal

Webtoon Productions has partnered with Espotlight, based in Madrid and Los Angeles, in a first-look agreement to create Spanish-language film and TV adaptations of Wattpad webnovels. This collaboration builds on their previous success with the global release of “Boulevard,” produced alongside Sony Pictures International.

Under this new agreement, Espotlight will have priority access to Spanish-language stories on Wattpad. This opportunity allows the production company to tap into a rich source of digital-native content with dedicated followings. Together, the partners aim to develop projects for Spanish-speaking audiences, as well as broader international markets.

This deal extends the collaboration between the companies following their work on “Boulevard,” adapted from Flor M. Salvador’s Wattpad series, which has been read over 160 million times. The film premiered in theaters across Spain, Latin America, and the U.S. in April 2026 and is now exclusively available on Prime Video.

“We are thrilled to collaborate with Webtoon Productions after the success of ‘Boulevard,’ both in theaters and on Prime Video,” said Anxo Rodríguez, founder and CEO of Espotlight Media. He described the movie as just the beginning of many projects the companies plan to pursue together.

“Our main objective is to create adaptations that resonate with their loyal audiences while also appealing to new viewers, both locally and internationally,” Rodríguez added.

Spanish-language fiction is among the most popular categories on Wattpad, offering Webtoon Productions a wealth of stories. The readership data and fan engagement from these stories can guide their development and adaptation strategies.

Webtoon Productions has a history of Spanish-language adaptations, including Ariana Godoy’s “Through My Window” series for Netflix and “Follow My Voice” for Prime Video, as well as “Bad Influence” for Netflix and the upcoming “Perfect Liars” for Prime Video. The first “Through My Window” film spent 18 weeks on Netflix’s list of top non-English-language films.

Webtoon Productions’ projects based on Wattpad and Webtoon content include “Sidelined: The QB and Me” with Tubi; “Lore Olympus” with Prime Video and The Jim Henson Company; “Love Me Love Me” with Prime Video; “Stagtown” with LuckyChap Entertainment; and “Love Advice From the Great Duke of Hell” with Imagine Entertainment.

Since its founding by Rodríguez in 2020, Espotlight has produced Prime Video’s “Los Farad” and “Tell Me Your Name,” the Disney+ and Apple TV+ thriller “You Would Do It Too,” and the Netflix film “Cortafuego,” which debuted in February and reached the number one spot in over 30 countries.
