Lam Research (NASDAQ: LRCX) is a company that manufactures machines used by chipmakers to etch and deposit microscopic layers of semiconductors. While it may not be a household name, it caught the attention of investors on Thursday when its stock surged 18% to around $298, marking its largest one-day gain since April 2025. This spike came on the heels of Lam’s impressive performance in the fiscal fourth quarter of 2026, where it reported record results and provided guidance for an even stronger quarter ahead.

If we look back 10 years ago, a $10,000 investment in Lam Research would be worth approximately $320,000 today, excluding dividends. With dividends reinvested, the total return would climb to around $365,000, far surpassing the returns of the broader market over the same period.

The growth in Lam’s revenue can be attributed to the chip industry’s increasing demand for manufacturing equipment, driven by the expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) technology. In fiscal 2026, Lam’s revenue grew by 26% year over year to $23.2 billion, with net income rising by 36% to $7.3 billion. The company’s fiscal fourth-quarter revenue jumped by 30% to $6.72 billion, with earnings per share increasing by 34% year over year.

Looking ahead, Lam Research expects its September-quarter revenue to reach $8.1 billion, a significant increase from the previous quarter. The company’s performance is driven by the growing demand for AI-driven technologies in the semiconductor industry.

However, investors should be cautious about investing in Lam Research at its current price levels, as the stock is trading at a premium compared to its earnings. While the company is executing well and the industry outlook is positive, entering the stock after an 18% jump may not be the best strategy. It would be prudent to wait for a more favorable entry point before considering an investment in Lam Research.

In conclusion, while Lam Research continues to show strong performance and growth potential, investors should weigh the risks and rewards before making any investment decisions. The company’s position in the semiconductor industry and its focus on AI-driven technologies make it an intriguing prospect, but caution is advised when considering the stock at its current valuation.
