TimesSquare Capital Management, an equity investment management company, recently released its “U.S. Focus Growth Strategy” first quarter 2025 investor letter. The letter can be downloaded here. Despite the broad-based downturn in US equities compared to overseas markets, the strategy outperformed the index in the first quarter. With a return of 2.42% (gross) and 2.20% (net), the strategy outperformed the Russell Midcap Growth Index, which had a -7.12% return.

In the first quarter of 2025, TimesSquare Capital U.S. Focus Growth Strategy highlighted EMCOR Group, Inc. (NYSE:EME) as one of its top picks. EMCOR Group, Inc. is a company based in Norwalk, Connecticut, that offers construction and facilities, building, and industrial services. The stock saw a one-month return of 29.70% and has gained 22.56% of its value over the last 52 weeks. As of May 16, 2025, EMCOR Group, Inc. closed at $470.43 per share with a market capitalization of $21.06 billion.

In the investor letter, TimesSquare Capital U.S. Focus Growth Strategy mentioned their initiation of a position in EMCOR Group, Inc. at the start of the year. Despite market concerns about the company’s activities tied to data center construction slowing down, EMCOR Group, Inc. showed strong underlying business trends. As the price of the stock retreated, TimesSquare Capital continued to build their position due to the strong demand the company was experiencing.

Although EMCOR Group, Inc. is not among the 30 Most Popular Stocks Among Hedge Funds, it is held by 55 hedge fund portfolios as of the end of the fourth quarter. In the first quarter of 2025, EMCOR Group, Inc. reported revenue of $3.87 billion, reflecting a year-over-year growth of 12.7%. While the potential of EMCOR Group, Inc. as an investment is acknowledged, TimesSquare Capital Management believes that AI stocks hold greater promise for delivering higher returns in a shorter timeframe.
