Rio2C’s Industry Pitching event at the mega creativity forum in Rio de Janeiro is set to feature some exciting titles from Brazilian creators. Among them are Flavio Frederico and Mariana Pamplona’s “Clandestine – The Life of Iara Iavelberg,” Beto Oliveira’s “Flora,” and Lucas Peligrineti’s “Pupupu/Bibibi.”

The lineup for the event includes a total of 24 titles spread across four categories – Fiction, Animation, Documentary/Factual, and Reality Shows. These titles explore various themes such as race, gender, and climate change, reflecting the realities of Brazil.

Even in the Animation category, the focus is on highlighting the stories of marginalized communities. For example, “Formiga” features characters from Brazil’s impoverished outer-city, while “Pupupu Bibibi” showcases insects from the Amazon in a comedic and fantastical setting.

Several titles in the lineup aim to shed light on forgotten or overlooked figures. “Flora” imagines the life of the first Black woman to join Brazil’s Methodist Church, while “Rogério Duprat: the Maestro (Beyond) Tropicalia” and “Tomorrow, Under the Sun” pay tribute to composer Rogério Duprat and photographer Alair Gomes, respectively.

One of the standout titles is the fictional miniseries “Clandestine,” which tells the story of Brazilian guerrilla fighter Iara Iavelberg, who was killed by Brazil’s military regime in 1971. The series serves as a tribute to her legacy and a reminder of the country’s turbulent past.

Director Beto Oliveira emphasizes the importance of remembering Brazil’s Black population and the atrocities committed against them in his film “Flora.” Similarly, Flavio Frederico describes “Clandestine” as a political and artistic gesture of reparation, aiming to introduce audiences to the remarkable life of Iara Iavelberg.

The Industry Pitching event will also feature a diverse range of titles across different genres, including documentaries like “Atafona: Submerged City” and reality shows like “The Hustle Factor.” These titles promise to offer unique perspectives on Brazilian culture and society.

Overall, the lineup for Rio2C’s Industry Pitching event showcases the rich storytelling and creative talent present in Brazil’s entertainment industry. With a focus on diverse voices and important historical narratives, these titles are sure to captivate audiences and spark important conversations.
