WhatsApp has unveiled a new beta version that introduces a fascinating feature allowing users to chat with individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account. This latest update, version 2.25.22.13, gives users control over how the app interacts with alternative messaging services while maintaining a high level of security.

Reports suggest that this move is in line with EU regulations that emphasize giving users the freedom to choose which messaging app they prefer to use. The main highlight of this update is the ability to communicate with smartphone users who do not have a WhatsApp account within the familiar WhatsApp chat environment.

The beta version showcases a feature called “guest chats,” hinting at communication with external messaging services. While other developers can already set up third-party chats to connect their apps to WhatsApp, the guest chat initiative involves WhatsApp hosting the entire cross-platform interaction within the existing WhatsApp Web interface.

These guest chats will enable non-account holders to join temporary chats via a link, all while adhering to WhatsApp’s strict security standards. Each guest chat will be end-to-end encrypted, ensuring the privacy and security of the conversations. However, only text-based communication will be supported, as media files, voice calls, and video calls will not be possible within these guest chats.

It’s important to note that guest chats are limited to one-on-one interactions only, meaning group chats with non-account holders are not supported. This feature aims to provide a secure and controlled environment for users to communicate with individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account.

In addition to the guest chat feature, WhatsApp has also announced new anti-scam measures to protect users from fraudulent activities. The messaging service detected and banned 6.8 million accounts linked to scam centers in the first half of 2025. To further enhance safety, WhatsApp is introducing a safety overview that alerts users when someone from outside their contacts list adds them to a new group.

This safety overview will provide information about the group and offer tips on staying safe, giving users the option to exit the group immediately. Notifications from the group chat will remain silent until the user decides to stay. Furthermore, WhatsApp is exploring ways to provide additional information about new contacts to help users identify potential scammers.

Overall, these new features demonstrate WhatsApp’s commitment to enhancing user experience and security on the platform. With the introduction of guest chats and anti-scam measures, WhatsApp aims to provide a safer and more inclusive messaging environment for its users.
