FBI Seizes 151 Pounds of Methamphetamine in Joliet

Two individuals are facing federal charges following an undercover operation in Joliet, where FBI agents confiscated over 151 pounds of crystal methamphetamine. The incident unfolded on Monday morning, as detailed in a recently filed criminal complaint.

According to investigators, an informant arranged to purchase more than 100 pounds of meth through WhatsApp messages with a man identified as Abel Araujo Bisoso.

On the morning of the operation, Araujo Bisoso and Rodolfo Ocampo Cipres arrived at a residence on Richmond Street to finalize the transaction with the informant. Surveillance teams observed the two men near a blue Mitsubishi and a gray Ford Escape registered to Ocampo Cipres.

The FBI alleges that Araujo Bisoso handed over a bag of crystal meth from a suitcase in the Mitsubishi to the source, describing the product as “badass” and claiming it exceeded the agreed-upon amount.

After the source verified the quality of the meth in a nearby garage, federal agents moved in to make arrests. Araujo Bisoso and Ocampo Cipres attempted to flee but were apprehended within 20 minutes.

Authorities discovered 118 plastic bags of meth in various pieces of luggage in the Mitsubishi, totaling nearly 152 pounds. Ocampo Cipres, during questioning, admitted to residing at the Richmond Street location and stated that Araujo Bisoso had requested to use the property for the meeting.

Both individuals have been charged with possession of over 500 grams of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

The informant, who has been cooperating with the FBI since 2020, has a criminal record that includes convictions for illegal entry, forgery, and narcotics possession. In exchange for cooperation, the informant has received over $316,000.
