The Hallmark universe is set to expand with the announcement of a new prequel series titled “Hope Valley: 1874.” This exciting new show will delve into the early days of the settlement now known as Hope Valley and is scheduled to debut in March 2026. The eight-episode series will star Bethany Joy Lenz, Benjamin Ayres, Jill Hennessy, Roan Curtis, and Lachlan Quarmby.
In the series, Bethany Joy Lenz portrays Rebecca Clarke, a woman who travels from Chicago to the Western Canadian frontier with her 11-year-old daughter, played by Roan Curtis. When her wagon breaks down, she is forced to accept help from local rancher Tom Moore, portrayed by Benjamin Ayres. Despite Rebecca’s initial reluctance to form attachments, the connections she makes in the town, including with the guarded Tom and the tenacious pioneer woman Hattie Quinn, played by Jill Hennessy, lead her to put down roots and start anew.
Lachlan Quarmby rounds out the main cast as Constable Alexander Vaughn, a member of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. The series will explore the challenges and adventures faced by ranchers, gold prospectors, and early pioneers as they come together to build a close-knit community in the rugged pioneer era.
Michelle Vicary, head of programming at Hallmark, expressed her excitement about the new series, stating that it will provide fans with a deeper look into the world of “When Calls the Heart.” The show, which has been a long-standing success for the network, has recently been renewed for its 13th season, set to air in 2026.
The original series, inspired by Janette Oke’s book, first premiered in 2014 and has since garnered a dedicated fan base. A spinoff series titled “When Hope Calls” debuted in 2019 and has continued to captivate audiences with its heartwarming stories. With the addition of “Hope Valley: 1874,” fans can look forward to further exploring the rich history and community that has made the “When Calls the Heart” universe so beloved.
