The White House Redirects COVID-19 Information Website to Promote Unproven Lab Leak Theory
Formerly known as covid.gov, the government-run website that provided crucial information about COVID-19 vaccines, testing, and treatment has now been redirected under President Trump’s administration. The page now leads visitors to a White House website that promotes the unproven theory suggesting that COVID-19 originated in a Chinese laboratory.
This controversial theory, which has faced opposition from numerous virologists, gained traction after a report by House Republicans claimed that the pandemic began due to a lab leak in China. However, House Democrats released a rebuttal, stating that the probe failed to conclusively determine the true origins of COVID-19.
Furthermore, the covidtests.gov website, which previously allowed individuals to order free coronavirus tests, now also redirects users to the same controversial White House page.
On this new website, the White House has included medical misinformation regarding the treatment of the virus. The site falsely asserts that measures such as social distancing, mask mandates, and lockdowns are ineffective in curbing the spread of COVID-19. This contradicts findings from numerous studies that have demonstrated the effectiveness of these preventive measures in reducing the transmission of respiratory infections like COVID-19.
Since Trump’s return to office, several government websites have been modified to align with the agenda of his administration. Notably, with the support of Elon Musk’s DOGE, the government has made efforts to eliminate words related to diversity from official documents. This includes terms like “Black,” “disability,” “diversity,” “gender,” “racism,” “women,” and more. Additionally, mentions of scientifically-proven climate change have been removed from environmental websites.
