Today, the White House unveiled “Winning the AI Race: America’s AI Action Plan,” aligning with President Trump’s executive order from January aimed at dismantling barriers to U.S. leadership in artificial intelligence. This initiative promises to usher in a new era of human development, economic vitality, and enhanced national security for Americans.
The Action Plan outlines over 90 federal policy measures organized under three main pillars: Accelerating Innovation, Building American AI Infrastructure, and Leading in International Diplomacy and Security. This comprehensive approach reflects a strategic commitment by the Trump Administration to position the U.S. as a frontrunner in the AI landscape in the forthcoming weeks and months.
Highlighted policies from the AI Action Plan include:
- Exporting American AI: The Departments of Commerce and State will collaborate with the private sector to create secure, comprehensive AI export packages. These will include hardware, software, models, applications, and standards, all aimed at bolstering America’s alliances worldwide.
- Accelerating Data Center Development: The plan includes measures to expedite and modernize the permitting process for data centers and semiconductor fabrication plants, alongside initiatives to boost the workforce in high-demand jobs such as electricians and HVAC technicians.
- Fostering Innovation and Adoption: Efforts will be made to eliminate cumbersome federal regulations obstructing AI advancement, with a call for private sector feedback on existing rules that can be simplified or removed.
- Championing Free Speech in Advanced Models: Federal procurement guidelines will be revised to ensure that contracts are awarded only to developers of large language models who demonstrate objectivity and avoid ideological bias in their systems.
