Bobby Lee recently spoke out about why he believes his character was not asked back for the third season of “And Just Like That.” In an interview with Entertainment Weekly at San Diego Comic-Con, Lee, 53, suggested that his character was cut along with other “woke elements” of the show. He mentioned that Sara Ramirez and other minority characters were also not asked back for the new season.

Lee portrayed Jackie Nee, Carrie Bradshaw’s podcast cohost, in the first two seasons of the “Sex and the City” spinoff. However, he revealed that he was not invited back for season 3, which is currently airing. The show follows Carrie, Miranda Hobbs, and Charlotte York as they navigate life in their 50s in New York City. Notably, original star Kim Cattrall did not return as Samantha Jones.

While Lee’s character added a fun dynamic to the show during the podcast storyline, the focus of season 3 has shifted to Carrie working on her new novel. As a result, Carrie’s podcast team, including Lee’s Jackie, Ivan Hernandez’s Franklyn Silvias, and Ali Stroker’s Chloe, did not return for the current season. Ramirez, who played Miranda’s love interest Che Diaz, also exited the series before season 3.

Karen Pittman, who played Miranda’s professor and friend Nya Wallace, did not return for the new season either. Season 3 introduced new characters, such as Rosie O’Donnell as Mary, a Canadian tourist who has a brief fling with Miranda, and Dolly Wells as Joy, Miranda’s latest love interest.

Despite his character’s exit after two seasons, Lee expressed his affection for the cast and crew of the show. He praised Sarah Jessica Parker for being the nicest person he’s ever met and commended the entire team for making him feel welcome on set.

In a light-hearted moment, Lee admitted that he was surprised to land the role considering it was not typical of his usual brand. He joked about being scared to take on the character but ultimately “walked through the fear” and gave it his best shot.

“And Just Like That” airs on HBO Max on Thursdays at 9 p.m. ET. The show continues to explore the lives of the iconic characters from “Sex and the City” as they navigate the challenges of middle age in the bustling city of New York.
