Iga Swiatek has been a dominant force at Roland Garros in recent years, with three titles to her name. However, this year she won’t be the overwhelming favorite, and that might actually work in her favor.

In 2020, Swiatek won her maiden Roland Garros title in a pandemic edition of the tournament. The conditions were different from usual, but the teenager showed her prowess on clay by storming to victory. She followed it up with another title in 2022, solidifying her status as the queen of clay.

However, this year has been a rough one for Swiatek. She has already suffered three losses on clay, the most she’s had on this surface since 2019. Her form has been inconsistent, with surprising defeats and uncharacteristic performances.

As a result, Swiatek will not be the favorite heading into Roland Garros. She is set to be ranked world number four, the lowest she’s been since 2022. The pressure of being the favorite and the expectation of winning every match may have taken a toll on her.

But perhaps this change in status could be a blessing in disguise for Swiatek. Without the burden of being the favorite, she may be able to play more freely and rediscover her best form. She still possesses the skills and talent to win the tournament if she can bring her A-game.

Despite her struggles this year, Swiatek remains one of the best players in the world. Her shot-making ability and movement on clay are still top-notch, and with the right mindset, she could surprise everyone at Roland Garros.

In the end, what matters is who lifts the trophy, not who is favored to win. Swiatek’s journey at Roland Garros this year may be different from previous years, but it could lead to a resurgence in her game. And who knows, she might just add another title to her collection.
