Why Is Everybody Standing on Vibration Plates?

Whole body vibration (WBV) technology has come a long way since its inception in the Victorian era by Dr. Gustav Zander. Today, modern science has perfected this technology, with machines like Power Plate and Lifepro Fitness offering a wide range of benefits for physical fitness.

Stepping onto a vibrating plate for the first time can be a strange experience, reminiscent of vintage fat-jigging machines from the past. However, the benefits of WBV technology are far-reaching. These machines claim to increase bone density, muscle mass, lymphatic drainage, improve balance, and even boost memory.

During a session on the vibrating plate, users can perform a guided warm-up followed by strengthening exercises like bicep curls, squats, and planks. Despite not feeling the same muscle fatigue as with traditional weights, users often report feeling invigorated and energized after a session. This is due to the high frequency of muscle activations that occur during WBV workouts.

According to Power Plate master trainer Laura Wilson, using a vibration platform can lead to significantly more muscle contractions compared to traditional floor exercises. With the plate moving at 30 times per second, users can experience up to 900 muscle activations in just 30 seconds. This is a stark contrast to the 30 to 60 contractions typically achieved with traditional workouts.

Wilson advises users to lower their weights by about 70% when using a vibration platform, as the intense muscle contractions require less weight to achieve the same results. A 20-minute workout on the plate is said to be equivalent to a 90-minute gym session, thanks to the increased circulation and nutrient delivery to the muscles.

In conclusion, whole body vibration technology offers a time-efficient and effective way to improve physical fitness. With benefits ranging from muscle strength to improved circulation, it’s no wonder that celebrities like Serena Williams and Mark Wahlberg swear by the power of vibrating plates. Whether you’re looking to build muscle, increase bone density, or simply boost your overall health, incorporating WBV technology into your fitness routine could be the key to achieving your goals.
