Kristin Cavallari is imparting the importance of money management to her children by limiting luxury travel experiences.
On the “Aspire with Emma Grede” podcast on Tuesday, July 7, the Hills alum, 39, shared that while she travels first class, her children fly economy. This decision is part of her approach to parenting her three children, Camden, 13, Jaxon, 12, and Saylor, 10, whom she shares with her ex-husband Jay Cutler.
Cavallari explained to Grede that her parenting choice is rooted in how she was raised to understand the value of money. “I really value how my mom raised me with money,” she said. “So my kids don’t just get whatever they want. And if they want something, they have to work for it.”
As the host of the “Let’s Be Honest” podcast, Cavallari emphasized the importance of instilling a strong work ethic in her children. “Last summer, both of my boys started their own small businesses. One was washing people’s windows, and the other was cleaning garbage cans. If they want something, they have to work for it,” she explained.

Acknowledging the privileged environment her children are growing up in, Cavallari stressed the importance of teaching them not to take their advantages for granted. “I try to be very hyper-aware of that because they are growing up in a very fortunate situation, and I want them to know this is my money, this is not your money,” she said. “Something as small as them flying coach while I’m in first class was important to me when they became old enough to understand.”
She is not alone in this approach. Celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay has also spoken about not allowing his children to fly first class.
In a 2017 interview with The Telegraph, Ramsay, 62, mentioned that none of his children fly first class, despite being able to afford it. Ramsay, who shares six children with his wife Tana, explained, “I have got to keep it real with the kids, and also I think just getting kids at the age of five, six and seven, used to first class and those big seats, they do not need the space, they get entertainment on their iPads.”
He further stated, “I do not want them sat there with a 10-course f**king menu with champagne. I am not embarrassed. It is my wife and I’s choice to discipline them and to keep them real.”
