Shares of Sprouts Farmers Market (NASDAQ: SFM) saw a significant increase of over 16% this past week following the release of strong financial results for the natural and organic grocery chain. The company reported net sales growth of 5% year over year, reaching $2.3 billion in the fiscal second quarter ending on June 28. This growth was fueled by the opening of 7 new stores during the quarter, bringing the total number of locations to 490 across 25 states.

Despite the overall positive performance, Sprouts faced a slight decline in comparable sales by 1%, attributed to tough comparisons from the prior year when supply chain disruptions at competitors drove more traffic to Sprouts stores. Additionally, the company’s gross margin dipped to 38.7% due to higher fuel costs, while earnings per share increased by 1% to $1.37, surpassing Wall Street’s expectations of $1.34 per share. Operating and free cash flow also remained strong at $369 million and $179 million, respectively, for the first half of 2026.

Looking ahead, Sprouts Farmers Market anticipates a turnaround in same-store sales in the third quarter and expects net sales growth of 5.5% to 6.5% for the full year. The company projects operating income between $675 million and $685 million, with earnings per share ranging from $5.32 to $5.40, driven by the opening of 42 new stores. Management envisions further expansion potential with a goal of surpassing 1,000 locations nationwide.

Chief financial officer Curtis Valentine expressed confidence in Sprouts’ growth prospects, citing a robust pipeline with over 110 executed leases and 155 approved new stores. This outlook aligns with the company’s long-term strategy to expand access to Sprouts in the coming years.
