The second season of St. Denis Medical wrapped up with several intriguing cliffhangers, leaving fans wondering whether the show will feature a time jump in its next installment.
“I wouldn’t want to time jump,” Mekki Leeper shared exclusively with Us Weekly during an interview alongside Kahyun Kim. “We did a small time jump this time, skipping through the summer between seasons 1 and 2.”
The actors speculated on what direction St. Denis Medical will take after the revelation of Ron’s (David Alan Grier) feelings for Joyce (Wendi McLendon-Covey) and the official relationship status of Matt (Leeper) and Serena (Kim).
“I was so nervous. Everybody involved with the show, including the writers, has worked diligently to make this a believable and satisfying story arc,” Leeper and Kim explained, emphasizing their efforts to create a “relationship they root for” on the show.
The costars expressed their delight in having each other for support.
“He’s such a gracious scene partner. Doing something intimate like building a storyline is easier when you already have a friendship. Building that together requires a lot of trust,” Kim commented. “Especially with intimate scenes, I have immense trust in him.”

Leeper echoed Kim’s sentiments, adding, “These scenes are challenging to perfect. It’s a relief when you’re acting with someone who is also a friend.”
St. Denis Medical, which first aired in 2024, chronicles the lives of overworked doctors and nurses striving to provide care at an under-resourced hospital in Oregon. Alongside Leeper, 31, and Kim, 36, the mockumentary features Wendi McLendon-Covey, David Alan Grier, Allison Tolman and Kaliko Kauahi.
From its debut, the chemistry between Matt and Serena was evident to viewers. Creator Eric Ledgin didn’t dismiss the possibility of a romantic storyline for the duo — but hinted to Us that it would evolve slowly.
“There’s definitely at least a one-sided will-they-or-won’t-they happening,” Ledgin teased to Us in November 2024. “So I can tell you it’ll definitely be a slow burn of something that we will track over time.”
St. Denis Medical has been renewed for a third season and is available on Peacock.
