Residents living near Clyde are being advised to get ready for a possible evacuation due to strong winds fueling a vegetation fire in the area. Fire crews from Clyde, Alexandra, Dunstan, and Tarras were dispatched to a property at the corner of Springvale and McArthur Roads around 1pm in response to reports of a grass fire, as confirmed by a spokesperson from Fire and Emergency NZ.

As of now, the team from Alexandra has returned to their base. Upon arrival, the firefighters found that the grass fire had mostly been extinguished, but it had spread to the nearby pine trees,” the spokesperson explained.

“To prevent further spread and protect any nearby structures, crews were deployed to surround the fire from different directions,” he added.

Although residents have been advised to be prepared for a potential evacuation, it is still uncertain whether an official evacuation order has been issued. Despite the fire being exacerbated by the wind, it is currently under control, with firefighters actively working to completely put it out.
