American Rapper Wiz Khalifa Sentenced to Jail in Romania for Drug Possession
American rapper Wiz Khalifa has been sentenced to nine months in jail by a court in Romania for drug possession. The incident occurred over a year after he performed at a music festival in the Eastern European country.
Khalifa was stopped by Romanian police in July 2024 for allegedly smoking cannabis on stage at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinesti, Constanta County.
Prosecutors found Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, in possession of more than 18 grams of cannabis, some of which he consumed on stage.
The Constanta Court of Appeal issued the final sentence after Khalifa was convicted of possession of dangerous drugs for personal consumption.
Romania has strict drug laws, with possession of cannabis for personal use punishable by imprisonment or a fine.
It remains unclear whether Romanian authorities will seek extradition as Khalifa is a U.S. citizen not residing in Romania.

Despite the legal issues, the 38-year-old rapper from Pittsburgh gained fame with his mixtape “Kush + Orange Juice.” He was seen smoking a large cigarette on stage while singing “Young, Wild & Free” in Romania.
