Plucky Elderly Woman Fights Back Against Teen Girls in Violent Subway Station Robbery Attempt

An elderly woman, Linda Rosa, 71, showed incredible courage and resilience when she fought back against a group of violent teen girls who attempted to rob her inside a Brooklyn subway station on New Year’s Day. The retired MTA worker was on her way to a church service when the harrowing incident unfolded at the Hoyt Street station.

Rosa recounted how the teens tried to grab her purse as she passed through the turnstile. Despite their aggressive attempts, she refused to give in. One of the girls punched her in the face, causing her glasses to fall to the ground. Another teen tried to distract her while the first one continued to assault her.

During the struggle, one of the teens managed to snatch a pocket pouch containing Rosa’s ID and medical records. Despite being punched and stomped on, Rosa fought back by grabbing the girls by their hair and refusing to let go. She called out for help and managed to keep the attackers at bay until they eventually fled.

After the ordeal, Rosa sought assistance at a nearby church, where she was cared for and the authorities were called. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of her injuries. Despite the traumatic experience, Rosa expressed gratitude that she wasn’t more seriously harmed.

Although the attackers remain at large, Rosa has chosen to forgive them, recognizing that they may not fully comprehend the gravity of their actions. She believes that they were simply acting foolishly as teenagers. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the increasing violence in the city’s transit system, with recent cases of extreme brutality.

Rosa’s story highlights the vulnerability of individuals, including seniors, to random acts of violence in public spaces. She emphasizes the importance of vigilance and caution, as such incidents can occur anywhere, at any time. Despite the trauma she endured, Rosa’s resilience and forgiveness shine through as a beacon of strength and grace in the face of adversity.
