California Man Convicted of Brutally Stabbing Ex-Girlfriend to Death

A horrifying crime shook the community when Laura Sardinha, a 25-year-old woman, was brutally murdered by her ex-boyfriend, Craig Charron, 39, in September 2020. The tragic incident unfolded on the same day Sardinha had changed the locks on her doors and obtained a restraining order against Charron, who had a history of violence towards women.

The chilling details of Sardinha’s final moments were captured on a voicemail she left for her mother and best friend as Charron, armed with multiple knives, appeared in her Huntington Beach home.

During the frantic call, Sardinha could be heard screaming, “He’s gonna kill me!” as the horrific events unfolded in real-time. The voicemail captured the harrowing moments of a woman facing her own demise.

Charron viciously attacked Sardinha with multiple knives, inflicting severe wounds including nearly slicing off her nose, stabbing her in the chest, and driving a tomato knife into her head with such force that the blade bent.

When law enforcement arrived at the scene, they found Sardinha lifeless and Charron injured with stab wounds to his chest and neck. Prosecutors argued that Charron’s injuries were self-inflicted in an attempt to stage the crime scene.

Charron, an Air Force veteran, claimed self-defense during the trial, alleging that Sardinha had attacked him first. However, the testimonies of three of his ex-girlfriends revealed a pattern of abusive behavior, with allegations of physical assault and domestic violence.

The prosecutor, Janine Madera, described Sardinha’s murder as a “cold-hearted” act of violence and highlighted the eerie silence from Charron in the voicemail recording. She emphasized that his lack of response during the ordeal signified a calculated and deliberate act of taking Sardinha’s life.

The tragic loss of Laura Sardinha serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of domestic violence and the critical need for support and protection for victims of abuse. The community mourns the untimely death of a young woman whose life was cut short in a senseless act of brutality.
