On Wednesday afternoon, a tragic incident occurred in Avondale as a 55-year-old woman was fatally stabbed inside her own home. The Chicago Police Department is currently investigating whether the killing was domestic-related.

The victim, identified as Vanessa Williams, was found by officers on the 2800 block of North Woodard Street with stab wounds to her face, neck, arm, and chest. She was rushed to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center where she was pronounced dead. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed that the Woodard address was her residence.

According to preliminary information from CPD, Williams was involved in a physical altercation with an unknown male offender who pulled out a knife and attacked her. A knife was recovered from the rear porch area as evidence.

Authorities are on the lookout for a Hispanic man in his mid-20s to early 30s, described as wearing a black beanie cap and a red shirt. He was last seen walking south on Woodard Street after the stabbing. As of Thursday morning, no arrests have been made in connection to the incident.

CWBChicago was established in 2013 by a group of residents from Wrigleyville and Boystown who were dissatisfied with the lack of accurate information provided at local Community Policing (CAPS) meetings. Since then, our coverage area has expanded to include Lincoln Park, River North, The Loop, Uptown, and other North Side areas. Our mission remains the same: to deliver original public safety reporting with comprehensive context and detail that surpasses mainstream media outlets.
