The incident occurred on October 23, 2023, around 8 p.m. when Rynearson ran a red light and struck 59-year-old Donald Heggemann, who was riding his bike northbound in a designated bike lane on North Damen Avenue. The impact of the collision propelled Heggemann into a parked car, resulting in severe injuries that ultimately led to his death.
Witnesses at the scene directed law enforcement officers to Rynearson’s vehicle as she attempted to flee.
