A violent incident occurred in Rogers Park late Friday night, leaving a 48-year-old man injured after being shot during an argument. According to Chicago police, the shooting took place in the 1900 block of West Howard Street around 11:25 p.m. When officers arrived at the scene, both the victim and the shooter had already fled. However, a shell casing was discovered inside a nearby tavern, indicating where the altercation had taken place.
Subsequently, the victim arrived at St. Francis Hospital in Evanston with a gunshot wound to his face. He recounted to authorities that he had engaged in a verbal dispute with an unidentified woman that escalated into a physical altercation. The woman then brandished a firearm and fired at least one shot, striking him in the left side of his face.
The shooter was described as a Black female, standing approximately 5 feet 6 inches tall and weighing around 200 pounds. She was dressed in all black attire and was noted to be wearing a blonde wig, which she may have removed and carried in her hand as she fled east towards Clark Street after the shooting.
This incident marks the 19th shooting victim in Rogers Park this year, a decrease from the 32 victims recorded at the same time in both 2024 and 2023. By comparison, in 2022, the neighborhood had reported 31 shooting victims by this date.
