Early Sunday, a woman sustained critical injuries from a shooting in Lincoln Park. The local alderman reported the incident occurred outside a neighborhood bar.
There is some uncertainty regarding the exact timing of the shooting. Both the CPD and Ald. Timmy Knudsen (43rd) indicated it happened around 4 a.m. Yet, CWB Chicago discovered the victim had arrived at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in a private vehicle much earlier.
Based on information from multiple sources, the shooting most likely took place shortly before 3 a.m. in the 600 block of West Belden Avenue. Here’s what we know.
At 2:59 a.m., CPD received several reports of gunfire in the 600 block of West Belden, with witnesses noting people fleeing the scene. Officers searched the area but did not find any injured individuals.
Approximately 45 minutes later, officers were called to Northwestern Memorial Hospital when a 39-year-old woman arrived for treatment of gunshot wounds to her chest and thigh. She was immediately taken into surgery, and CPD reported her condition as critical.
Officers revisited the area of Lincoln Avenue and Belden Avenue, discovering shell casings at an alley entrance in the 600 block of West Belden, just east of Lincoln. They also found a trail of blood leading toward the nearby bar district, according to officers on the scene.
Later that morning, Knudsen emailed residents, stating the victim “was shot outside of a bar on the 600 block of W. Belden Avenue.”
He did not disclose the bar’s name or suggest that a specific establishment was directly involved in the incident. Knudsen urged anyone with information to contact the police.
This incident marks the second shooting in Lincoln Park this year. The area recorded one victim last year and two in 2024. However, 2021 and 2023 were notably severe, with mass shootings resulting in 18 and 11 victims, respectively.
