A shooting incident occurred in Edgewater, Chicago, where a woman was shot in an alley this afternoon, according to Ald. Leni Manaa-Hoppenworth. The shooting took place in the 5900 block of North Kenmore around 3:20 p.m., with the victim sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg. The specific age of the woman is currently unknown, but she has been confirmed as an adult.

Chicago police quickly responded to the scene after receiving reports of shots fired and found the injured woman. Witnesses described the shooter as a Black male standing approximately 5’6” tall and wearing a black hoodie. This incident comes amidst a concerning trend of increasing gun violence in the neighborhood, with shootings in Edgewater up by 300% compared to last year.

Ald. Manaa-Hoppenworth expressed her outrage and concern over the recent spike in gun violence incidents within her ward. So far this year, a total of 20 people have been shot in Edgewater, a significant increase from the five incidents recorded last year and the ten incidents in 2022.
