A shocking discovery was made on Sunday morning near Fort Totten in Queens, as a woman’s body was found floating in the East River, just 50 yards away from an abandoned Mercedes covered in blood. The NYPD responded to a 911 call about an unconscious person in the water near Cross Island Boulevard and Totten Road around 11:15 a.m.
The woman, believed to be around 45 years old, was declared dead at the scene by EMS workers. A pedestrian first spotted the body along the rocky shoreline near a popular jogging path in Little Bay Park by the Throgs Neck Bridge.
The abandoned white Mercedes E-class with New York plates was parked nearby, with large smears of blood covering the rear driver-side door. The car’s interior also showed signs of blood, including a pool on the driver’s seat. The medical examiner arrived on the scene to investigate and will determine the cause of the woman’s death.
The victim’s identity has not been released pending family notification, and the police are still investigating the case. Locals in the normally quiet neighborhood were shocked by the gruesome scene. One resident, Max, expressed disbelief at the crime scene in the area, stating that he had never seen anything like it in his entire life.
He described the area as a popular spot for outdoor activities, such as biking, rollerblading, and walking dogs, especially on Sundays. The presence of a dead body and a blood-covered car in such a bustling location was incomprehensible to him. The investigation into the incident continues as authorities work to piece together the events leading up to the woman’s tragic death.
