Rodolfo Liprandi, an artist who finds inspiration in nature and landscapes, has been fascinated by the beauty of the natural world since his childhood in northeastern Italy. Growing up near the border of Slovenia, he was captivated by the diverse ecologies and organic forms that surrounded him. Liprandi explains, “One of the aspects that most fascinated me was realizing how nature already provides ready and extremely evocative forms. A branch, a trunk, or a tangle of shrubs can spontaneously suggest figures, presences, animals, or movements.”

Currently residing in Warsaw, Liprandi creates dynamic sculptures from trimmed branches found in forests and landscapes. His sculptures often take the form of real creatures, particularly woodland mammals, as well as fantastical beings like dragons and elves. He describes his artistic practice as a “symbiotic dialogue with the environment, free from logistical and financial constraints, where the creative process becomes central.”

Emphasizing the use of locally sourced materials, Liprandi works with what is available to him, consciously minimizing his environmental impact. His sculptures are designed as ephemeral installations that eventually weather and decay, mirroring the natural life cycle. He states, “What interests me is not so much the permanence of the object, but rather the process and lifecycle of the work: taking from nature, creating, and finally allowing nature to reclaim the creation.”

One of Liprandi’s most significant works is his first animal sculpture, a wild boar created for a festival along the Soča River. This sculpture, which symbolizes his homeland and the identity of the Isonzo River, marked the beginning of his artistic journey in nature. Liprandi reflects, “For me, it remains a foundational ‘totem,’ inextricably linked to the identity of the place and the birth of my artistic practice in nature.”
