Woody Harrelson has delivered some disappointing news for fans of the hit TV series “True Detective.” During an appearance on the “Today” show to promote his new movie, “Now You See Me: Now You Don’t,” Harrelson revealed that there is “no chance” of reuniting with his co-star Matthew McConaughey for another season centered on their beloved characters, Rust Cohle and Marty Hart.

The first season of “True Detective,” which aired in 2014 on HBO, was a critical and commercial success, earning both Harrelson and McConaughey Emmy nominations for their performances. However, Harrelson seems content with leaving the series as it is, believing that revisiting the characters in a new season would only serve to tarnish the legacy of the original.

When asked about the possibility of returning for another season, Harrelson responded, “No chance… Because it turned out great. I love that it turned out the way it did, and if anything, doing another season would, I think, tarnish that.”

Despite Harrelson’s reluctance, “True Detective” creator Nic Pizzolatto has expressed interest in bringing back Rust Cohle and Marty Hart for a new story. McConaughey, in particular, has shown enthusiasm for the idea, stating that he would be open to returning if the script lived up to the quality of the first season.

Pizzolatto has hinted at a new season being character-based once again, but emphasized that nothing has been written yet. He mentioned that discussions have taken place with the actors about potentially reuniting for another season, but it remains uncertain whether it will come to fruition.

While Harrelson may not be on board for another season of “True Detective,” fans can still hold out hope for a reunion between Rust Cohle and Marty Hart. The original chemistry between the two actors and the gripping storytelling of the first season have left a lasting impact on viewers, making the prospect of a return all the more tantalizing.

For now, fans will have to cherish the memories of the first season and keep their fingers crossed for a possible reunion in the future. Watch Harrelson’s full interview on the “Today” show to hear more about his thoughts on the subject.
