Xbox CEO Asha Sharma recently participated in a “live playthrough” of TES VI, describing its scale as “incredible”. However, her mysterious post on X has shifted the community’s attention to the game’s full title. The post features eight asterisks following “The Elder Scrolls VI”, which might or might not indicate the length of the subtitle.
If the asterisks are indeed a clue to the number of letters, “Hammerfell”, a commonly speculated title, doesn’t fit.
Community speculates TES VI subtitle as Asha Sharma marks a major development milestone
Fans of the Elder Scrolls series are examining the asterisk clue to guess the title. With “Hammerfell” ruled out, a popular theory is TES VI: Sentinel, aligning with the naming style of TES II: Daggerfall as a reference to High Rock.
Other proposed titles include two-word options like High Rock, Skyrim II, Iliac Bay, or even Redguard (encore).
With no official information available, these speculations are all fans have. The assumption that the game is set south of Iliac Bay is based on the lone trailer from E3 2018 and unverified leaks thereafter.
Asha Sharma’s recent post might just be another hint that leads nowhere. The asterisks could be random and not hint at the title at all, possibly to add intrigue amid Bethesda’s transparent development roadmap.
The significant aspect of Sharma’s post is the “live playthrough” of an internal build of TES VI shown to her. This marks only the second direct statement from an Xbox executive about witnessing gameplay.
A few weeks back, Xbox executive Matt Booty mentioned in a Variety interview that TES VI is “progressing well”, having seen the game firsthand. Sharma’s latest post adds to the discussion on the game’s scale.
The Elder Scrolls series has consistently expanded from Morrowind to Oblivion to Skyrim. Likely due to fewer hardware limitations over time, TES VI is expected to continue this trend.
Returning to the key point: it’s likely just a vertical slice, and the game is still in development. After three years of production, a direct post from the Xbox CEO marks a significant milestone.
Even if it doesn’t reflect the game’s current stage, it shows confidence in its progress. Amidst restructuring and studio cuts, Xbox is channeling more resources into developing Fallout and Elder Scrolls projects.
As one of Bethesda’s main titles, TES VI is gaining momentum, and there could be a second authentic trailer at TGA. Until then, fans can only rely on the circulating rumors and hopeful speculation about TES VI.
