Samsung has just unveiled the Galaxy S25 Edge smartphone, but the latest rumors surrounding the Xiaomi 16 have me more intrigued. The Galaxy S25 Edge offers a premium flagship experience at a premium price, boasting a super slim 5.3mm body. However, it seems like Samsung may be missing the mark with this release.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi 16 is generating buzz with leaked details from Chinese leaker Smart Pikachu. The Xiaomi 16 is rumored to come with a massive 6,800mAh battery, despite maintaining the compact form factor that the Xiaomi series is known for. The Xiaomi 15, for example, features a 6.3-inch OLED display in a relatively small body of 152.3 x 71.2 x 8.1mm.
While the battery capacity mentioned may be specific to the Chinese model, it is likely that the global version of the Xiaomi 16 will still offer a larger battery compared to its predecessor. This would put it ahead of the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge in terms of battery capacity.
Speaking of the Galaxy S25 Edge, Samsung seems to have prioritized a slim design over practicality. The phone is equipped with a modest 3,900mAh battery, smaller even than the Galaxy S25. With a thinner body, the Galaxy S25 Edge also sacrifices a dedicated telephoto camera.
In contrast, the Xiaomi 16 is expected to retain essential features like a third lens and potentially be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 chip. With 100W charging and an anticipated September launch, the Xiaomi 16 could outshine the Galaxy S25 Edge shortly after its release, and possibly at a more affordable price point.
While Samsung should be commended for pioneering the ultra-thin flagship phone trend, the Xiaomi 16’s classic compact design and impressive battery capacity seem to offer a more practical approach. As we await hands-on experience with the Galaxy S25 Edge, the Xiaomi 16’s promising features make it a compelling contender in the smartphone market.
