I didn’t have any time to connect with Taylor before jumping into the role. It was all very fast-paced. However, I did receive some advice from the script and the character breakdown. I was able to gather a lot of information about Pete Calvin from the material I was given, and I used that to inform my performance. Taylor Sheridan is a brilliant writer and creator, so I trusted the words on the page to guide me in portraying Pete authentically.
How do you approach portraying a veteran like Pete Calvin?
Playing a veteran like Pete Calvin is a huge responsibility. I have the utmost respect for those who have served in the military, and I wanted to honor their experiences and sacrifices through my performance. I did a lot of research on Navy SEALs and the challenges they face both during and after their service. I wanted to capture the emotional depth and complexity of a character like Pete, who is dealing with his own inner demons while also trying to support his friend Kayce. It was important to me to show the humanity and vulnerability of a veteran, and I hope that comes through in my portrayal.
What can viewers expect from the rest of the season of “Marshals”?
Without giving too much away, I can say that the rest of the season is going to be intense. The stakes are high for all the characters, and there are some unexpected twists and turns that will keep viewers on the edge of their seats. Pete Calvin’s role in the marshal team becomes even more crucial as the season progresses, and his relationship with Kayce is tested in ways neither of them could have anticipated. There’s a lot of action, drama, and emotion packed into the episodes ahead, and I think fans of “Yellowstone” and new viewers alike will be hooked from start to finish.
What are you most proud of in your work on “Marshals”?
I’m most proud of the authenticity and depth that I was able to bring to the character of Pete Calvin. It was a challenging role, but also incredibly rewarding to delve into the mindset of a Navy SEAL and explore the complexities of his relationships and struggles. I’m also proud of the camaraderie and chemistry that developed between the cast members, especially with Luke Grimes. It’s always a gift to work with talented actors who push you to be better, and I think we were able to create some really powerful and poignant moments on screen. Overall, I’m proud to be a part of a show that honors the military and tells a compelling story about loyalty, friendship, and sacrifice.
