The Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026 kicked off with a star-studded opening ceremony at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. The event was graced by celebrity guests Yo Yo Honey Singh, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Harnaaz Sandhu. The tournament began with a thrilling match between the Mumbai Indians (MI) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Harnaaz Sandhu, the actress and model, started the ceremony with a powerful and inspiring speech, setting the tone for the evening. This was followed by a mesmerizing dance performance by Bollywood actress Jacqueline Fernandez, who enthralled the audience with her moves to songs like ‘Jumme ki Raat’ from the movie ‘Kick’.
The highlight of the evening was the performance by singer and music producer Yo Yo Honey Singh, who took the stage with his hit song ‘Millionaire’ from his album ‘Glory’. The captains of MI and RCB, Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana, were also present during his performance. Honey Singh continued to entertain the crowd with another popular track, ‘Lungi Dance’.
The WPL 2026 season will consist of 20 league matches followed by the Eliminator and the final, with matches being held at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai and the Kotambi Stadium in Vadodara.
MI enters the tournament as the defending champions, having won the title in the previous edition by defeating Delhi Capitals (DC) in a close final. MI, the most successful team in WPL history, has lifted the trophy twice in three seasons. RCB, the only other team to have won the championship, emerged victorious in the 2024 edition by beating DC in the final.
