Taylor Swift’s music video for her single “Opalite” was released on February 6, 2026, creating a buzz on social media and in the entertainment industry. The video, connected to her album “The Life of a Showgirl,” features a star-studded cast and a surreal storyline revolving around a fictional spray that promises to change people’s lives.

While many praised the video for its nostalgic feel and celebrity appearances, podcaster Zack Peter offered a critical perspective in a video posted on the same day. He expressed confusion about the video’s narrative and creative direction, calling it “the worst” music video he had ever seen. Peter questioned the symbolism and pacing, stating that he did not understand the purpose of the project.

Taylor Swift announced the video’s release through a countdown on her website, with an exclusive debut on Apple Music and Spotify Premium on February 6, 2026. The video was reported to be available on YouTube from February 8, 2026. The rollout of the music video followed the unconventional releases characteristic of the “Life of a Showgirl” era, including a limited blue pearlescent vinyl edition for fans.

“Opalite” has already made a strong impact on the charts, debuting at No. 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 and currently holding the No. 10 spot. The track also reached No. 2 on the UK charts and is expected to climb higher following the release of the music video.

The video, described as a whimsical Nineties-inspired fantasy, was written and directed by Taylor Swift herself. It features Swift bonding with a pet rock while Domhnall Gleeson’s character forms a connection with a cactus. The magical spray, Opalite, brings them together in a unique storyline. Celebrities like Graham Norton, Greta Lee, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Lewis Capaldi make appearances, with Cillian Murphy contributing a cameo through billboard imagery and voiceover.

Taylor Swift explained that the idea for the video originated from her appearance on “The Graham Norton Show” in October 2025, where she was paired with the same guest lineup seen in the video. She praised Norton’s charisma and invited the group to collaborate as a creative reunion.

In his reaction video on X, Zack Peter criticized the “Opalite” video for its confusing narrative and symbolism. He found it challenging to follow the Eighties-style infomercial throwback and was distracted by the celebrity cameos. Peter also questioned the central love story’s meaning, speculating about possible references to Swift’s personal life but noting that he was largely speculating.

Overall, Zack Peter’s critique adds to the ongoing online debate about the video’s artistic direction and reception. The commercial success of “Opalite” highlights the diverse opinions surrounding Taylor Swift’s latest music video, showcasing the range of reactions from fans and critics alike.
