New Zealand’s Zakary Foulkes turned the tide in his team’s favor by taking two crucial wickets in consecutive deliveries during the third and final ODI against India at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, January 18.
In the 44th over of the Indian innings, Foulkes delivered a full toss at 125.3 kph. Harshit Rana attempted to hit it for a boundary but mistimed the shot. Henry Nicholls sprinted from long-on and dived forward to take a spectacular catch, dismissing Rana for a well-played 52 off 43 balls, which included four fours and as many sixes.
On the very next delivery, Foulkes bowled a fullish delivery down the leg side. Mohammed Siraj tried to flick it but only managed a faint edge to keeper Mitchell Hay, who completed the dismissal comfortably behind the stumps. Siraj was dismissed for a golden duck, leaving India reeling at 277/8 with 61 runs still needed to win.
Meanwhile, in their chase of 338 runs, India got off to a shaky start, losing four wickets for just 71 runs. Virat Kohli and Nitish Kumar Reddy then stabilized the innings with an 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Reddy was dismissed for 53. Kohli continued his fine form, adding 99 runs for the seventh wicket with Harshit Rana, eventually reaching his 54th ODI century. However, Kohli fell for 124 off 108 balls, including 10 fours and three sixes, leaving India struggling at 292/9 after 45.4 overs.
Earlier in the match, New Zealand posted a challenging total of 337/8 in their 50 overs, courtesy of centuries from Daryl Mitchell (137) and Glenn Phillips (106). Arshdeep Singh and Harshit Rana stood out for India, picking up three wickets each.
