ZDF Studios has recently acquired the international distribution rights for Season 4 of the popular factual series “Ancient Superstructures.” This new season will focus on iconic landmarks such as Barcelona’s Sagrada Familia, which is set to reach a major milestone in June.
Produced by Pernel Media in collaboration with RMC Découverte, Histoire, SBS, and ZDF Studios, Season 4 is currently in production and is expected to be completed by spring. ZDF Studios has secured the distribution rights for markets worldwide, excluding French-speaking territories and Australia.
Known for its unique blend of high-end CGI and scientific investigation, “Ancient Superstructures” takes viewers on a journey to unravel the engineering secrets behind some of the world’s most famous monuments. The upcoming season will feature episodes exploring the Acropolis of Athens, Neuschwanstein Castle in Germany, Pierrefonds Castle, and the medieval city of Carcassonne in France.
However, the highlight of Season 4 will be the Sagrada Familia, where the production team has been granted exclusive access to film the historic moment of placing the final stone on the basilica’s main structure. This event, scheduled for June, coincides with the centenary of architect Antoni GaudÃ’s death and the official inauguration of the Tower of Jesus Christ.
Standing at 172.5 meters, the Sagrada Familia is set to become the tallest church in the world. While the main structure and its 18 towers are expected to be completed by 2026, additional decorative work on the Glory Façade may continue through 2034.
Nikolas Huelbusch, director of unscripted at ZDF Studios, praised the series for its innovative approach to factual programming and expressed excitement about capturing the historic completion of the Sagrada Familia. Pernel Media executive producer Fabrice Frank highlighted the series’ mission to uncover the secrets of these architectural marvels through cutting-edge technology.
Pernel Media founder and CEO Samuel Kissous emphasized the commitment to producing premium, internationally resonant programming through projects like “Ancient Superstructures.” The partnership between ZDF Studios and Pernel Media showcases the companies’ dedication to creating high-quality content for global audiences.
Overall, the acquisition of distribution rights for Season 4 of “Ancient Superstructures” underscores ZDF Studios’ position as a key player in the global television market. With a focus on premium factual content, the series continues to push boundaries and engage viewers with its in-depth exploration of historical landmarks.
