In a rather intriguing twist, New York City’s Democratic mayoral candidate, Zohran Mamdani, has publicly declared his disdain for billionaires, suggesting that their very existence is unnecessary. However, this aversion seems a bit paradoxical given the financial backing he has received from billionaire philanthropist George Soros, a figureMamdanihas often criticized.
And yet…
The irony is palpable.
The New York Post reports:
George Soros has funneled an astonishing $37 million to various progressive organizations supporting Zohran Mamdani’s campaign
Now, that’s a plot twist.
While Mamdani has made headlines for his assertion that billionaires should not exist, it appears that his path to potentially becoming the next mayor of New York City has been paved by one such billionaire—George Soros. Financial documents reviewed by The Post reveal that Soros’s philanthropic endeavors have played a significant role in bolstering Mamdani’s campaign.
In a recent appearance on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Mamdani reiterated his stance against billionaires, while simultaneously proposing to increase property taxes in affluent areas, which he labels as “richer and whiter neighborhoods.”
Over the past several years, Soros’ Open Society Foundations have indirectly contributed a staggering $37 million to the Working Families Party and at least nine other left-leaning organizations. These groups have been instrumental in Mamdani’s rise, including his surprising victory over former Governor Andrew Cuomo in the Democratic primary, as documented in the foundation’s records.
Since 2016, the Working Families Party, a prominent ally in Mamdani’s campaign, has received approximately $23.7 million from Soros through its fundraising arm, the Working Families Organization Inc.
It’s almost comical. Is this a genuine political movement or merely a cleverly orchestrated charade?
So, a multibillionaire financier is backing a multimillionaire trust fund kid who claims to champion the working class despite never having held a job, while advocating for a socialist agenda. How does anyone buy into this narrative? https://t.co/0DwUcmCAW2

It seems that Mamdani’s policies on billionaires might just come with a few exceptions. The question remains: will the voters of New York City see through this political façade?
