Maverick McNealy came close to winning the Genesis Invitational 2025 on Sunday, February 16, finishing just one stroke behind Ludvig Aberg. This marked his third top-10 finish of the season, showcasing his consistency and skill on the golf course.

Starting the final round five strokes off the lead, McNealy made a remarkable comeback with a stellar performance. He kicked off the day with five consecutive birdies on holes 2–6 and finished the front nine with a score of 30. Adding three more birdies in the following holes, McNealy reached 11-under before a bogey on the 14th hole. Despite his best efforts, he couldn’t secure another birdie in the remaining holes, ultimately finishing second in the tournament.

McNealy, the 29-year-old son of Scott McNealy, the co-founder of Sun Microsystems, has a strong background in technology. With his father’s company being acquired by Oracle for $7.4 billion, the McNealy family boasts a significant net worth. Maverick’s success on the golf course has also been lucrative, as he earned $2,200,000 for his runner-up finish at the Genesis Invitational, his highest paycheck on the PGA Tour to date.

Reflecting on his performance, McNealy expressed pride in his effort, especially considering he was outside the cutline through 27 holes. He acknowledged a few missed opportunities but remained positive about his overall performance. With his first PGA Tour victory at the RSM Classic last fall, McNealy has carried his winning form into this season, securing three top-10 finishes in six starts. Notable results include a tie for eighth at The Sentry 2025 and a T9 finish at the WM Phoenix Open.

Overall, Maverick McNealy’s impressive performance at the Genesis Invitational 2025 solidifies his status as a rising star in the world of golf. With his talent, determination, and family legacy, McNealy is undoubtedly a player to watch in future tournaments.
