A high school graduation event in Northern California turned tragic on Wednesday night when shots were fired outside the venue, resulting in one death and three injuries. Authorities are still searching for the shooter.

The incident occurred shortly after the Sem Yeto High School commencement ceremony at Fairfield High School’s Schafer Stadium.

Officials confirmed an active shooter situation at the stadium, and the investigation is ongoing.

According to school district representatives, the violence erupted after the graduation ceremony had ended.

At approximately 8 p.m., Suisun City Mayor Alma Hernandez took to social media to announce that three individuals had been shot.

Mayor Hernandez also mentioned that there was an active shooter situation at the stadium and the investigation was ongoing.

“It’s traumatic for everyone who witnessed it. It’s outrageous,” said Fairfield Police officer Michelle Belyea.

“It’s sad. Prayers for everyone affected by it. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.”

The Fairfield-Suisun Unified School District confirmed that law enforcement responded to the campus after the incident.

One attendee said the shooting broke out in the parking lot after the ceremony concluded, as families and graduates gathered to take photos.
