Officers Fire Shots at Suspect’s Car Following 911 Call in Old Town

CHICAGO — A woman’s 911 call reporting she was in a vehicle with individuals carrying four guns led to a police response in Old Town on Sunday evening. The incident culminated in shots being fired at a suspect’s car, with no reported injuries from the gunfire.

At approximately 6:36 p.m., the woman contacted 911, stating that she felt unsafe in a silver car traveling northbound on Lake Shore Drive near Ontario Street. She informed the operator that the occupants of the vehicle were armed with four guns.

Upon receiving updated information on the car’s whereabouts, law enforcement intercepted a vehicle matching the description in the 300 block of West Division around 6:50 p.m.

According to a statement from the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the individuals in the car failed to comply with police instructions, resulting in the driver striking a police vehicle. Subsequently, an officer discharged their weapon towards the vehicle, which then fled the scene. The reason for the officer’s use of force was not disclosed.

Law enforcement later located the car and apprehended a suspect in the 100 block of West North Avenue shortly thereafter.

CPD confirmed that one officer was transported to a hospital for observation following the incident.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability is conducting an investigation into the shooting. Per department protocol, the officer involved in the discharge of their weapon will be assigned to administrative duties for a minimum of 30 days.
