A violent altercation outside a River North nightclub in the early hours of the morning resulted in a man being shot. Witnesses reported a large group of people fighting in the 100 block of West Ontario when one individual threatened to use a gun around 4:02 a.m.
According to the Chicago Police Department (CPD), the victim, a 25-year-old man, was engaged in an argument that escalated into a physical confrontation with another man. The situation took a dangerous turn when the offender produced a gun and fired shots, striking the victim in the buttocks.
Eyewitnesses identified a man in the vicinity as the shooter, leading to his detainment by police around 4:25 a.m. Some witnesses claimed to have seen him place the gun in a black SUV before leaving the scene. Although the man was taken in for questioning, CPD later announced that no one is currently in custody in connection with the incident.
Emergency Medical Services (EMS) transported the victim to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in good condition following the shooting.
This latest incident marks the ninth shooting on the Near North Side this year. In comparison, by this time last year, the area had seen eight individuals injured by gunfire, including a Chicago police officer and the suspect who allegedly shot the officer.
