Emergency Response at Denver International Airport as American Airlines Flight Evacuated
Denver, CO – An American Airlines flight bound for Miami International Airport was evacuated onto the runway at Denver International Airport due to a maintenance issue on Saturday afternoon. The incident, which involved a problem with an airplane tire, resulted in one person being taken to the hospital with a minor injury. Five others were evaluated on the scene but did not require hospitalization.
Initially reported as a landing gear problem, American Airlines officials later clarified that the issue was with one of the plane’s tires and occurred before takeoff. The aircraft was immediately taken out of service for inspection. The flight, carrying 173 passengers and six crew members, will be rescheduled for a later departure to Miami.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the incident involving the Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft. A photo captured by a passenger showed smoke coming from the plane and the deployment of evacuation slides.
Following the evacuation, numerous flight delays and cancellations were reported at Denver International Airport, causing disruption to hundreds of travelers. FlightAware recorded 435 delays and 14 cancellations as of 5 p.m.
This event marks the second time this year that American Airlines flights in Colorado have faced significant issues. In March, a Boeing 737-800 flying out of Colorado Springs had to make an emergency landing at DIA due to an engine fire.
