Cook County Crime Stoppers has announced a reward of up to $10,000 for information leading to the identification and arrest of those responsible for two downtown shootings that occurred on Friday night, resulting in one death and eight injuries. The organization hopes that the incentive will prompt individuals with knowledge of the incidents to come forward, with the assurance of complete anonymity for tipsters.

The first shooting took place outside the Chicago Theatre around 10 p.m. following the city’s Christmas tree lighting ceremony. A lone gunman targeted seven juvenile victims, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Surveillance footage indicated that the suspect, described as a five-foot-eight Black male wearing distinctive clothing, fled the scene heading east on Lake Street. Shortly after, another shooting occurred in the 100 block of South Dearborn Street, claiming the life of a 17-year-old boy and leaving an 18-year-old man in critical condition.

Paul Rutherford, the executive director of Cook County Crime Stoppers, emphasized the gravity of the violence that unfolded in the heart of the city, labeling it as unacceptable. He urged anyone with pertinent information to come forward, reassuring them of the confidentiality and anonymity guaranteed by Crime Stoppers. Individuals can report tips by calling 1-800-535-STOP or submitting them online through CPD.com, with the possibility of receiving the full $10,000 reward.

These acts of violence have shaken the community, prompting a call for unity and cooperation in bringing the perpetrators to justice. The public’s assistance is crucial in ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, and every piece of information, no matter how small, can make a significant difference in resolving these cases.

As the investigation unfolds, authorities are counting on the support of the community to help shed light on the events that transpired on that fateful night in downtown Chicago. With the promise of anonymity and a substantial reward, individuals are encouraged to step forward and assist in bringing closure to the victims and their families. The resolve to combat violence and uphold peace in the city remains unwavering, with the collective efforts of law enforcement and the public playing a pivotal role in achieving this goal.
