Chris Paul Announces Retirement Plans

Published on November 22, 2025 at 11:11 AM PST

Los Angeles Clippers’ star point guard Chris Paul, considered one of the greatest in NBA history, has made the decision to retire. The announcement came on Saturday morning, as Paul shared a collection of photos from his childhood to the present, along with memorable highlights from his illustrious career.

Paul revealed that he plans to retire after the 2025-26 season, marking the end of a remarkable journey in professional basketball. His message was accompanied by a tweet saying, “Back in NC!!! What a ride…Still so much left…GRATEFUL for this last one!!” This tweet was shared ahead of his game against the Charlotte Hornets in his home state of North Carolina.

Beginning his NBA career in 2005 as the No. 4 overall pick by the New Orleans Hornets, Paul quickly made a name for himself in the league. He was awarded Rookie of the Year in his debut season, setting the stage for numerous accolades to follow. With 12 All-Star selections, 11 All-NBA team honors, and 9 appearances on the All-Defensive team, Paul’s impact on the game is undeniable.

Over the course of his career, Paul played for several teams including the Hornets, Clippers, Rockets, Thunder, Suns, Warriors, and Spurs. Despite not winning an NBA championship, Paul’s legacy is solidified by his ranking as second all-time in assists and steals. In 2021, he was also recognized as one of the 75 Greatest Players in NBA History for the NBA 75th Anniversary Team.

Returning to the Clippers this season, Paul’s decision to retire marks the end of a remarkable chapter in NBA history. As fans and fellow players reflect on his contributions to the game, Chris Paul’s impact on basketball will be remembered for years to come.
