14-Year-Old Charged in Assault of 66-Year-Old Usher at Concert

A 14-year-old boy has been formally charged with felony assault after he was filmed violently attacking a 66-year-old usher, Thomas Schlange, during an NBA Youngboy concert at the T-Mobile Center in Kansas City on October 17.

The teenager, whose identity remains confidential due to his age, was detained shortly after the incident and subsequently charged earlier this week, as reported by Fox 4 News.

According to Schlange, the assault took place after he requested the boy to relocate from an incorrect seat. In response, the assailant threw him into a row of seats and began to unleash a series of punches.

Having served as an usher at the T-Mobile Center for 17 years, Schlange expressed relief that charges were pressed, emphasizing the importance of accountability. “But [it’s] actually kind of sad things got to this point,” he remarked to Fox 4. “Restraint, cooperation and respect are important lessons to learn.”

During his work at the concert, Thomas Schlange was brutally assaulted after requesting a teenager to leave a seat that wasn’t his.

Schlange has notably stated that he retains minimal recollection of the attack and continues to feel emotionally shaken. “I mean, it is serious; I went down and had blows to my head,” he recounted post-attack, adding, “He was so enraged, so we were just, in essence, trying to protect the fans.”

In a show of support, Schlange’s grandson, Herber Lopez, initiated a fundraiser to assist him financially during his recovery from the injuries sustained in the incident. Social media has been abuzz with images from the GoFundMe campaign, highlighting Schlange’s visibly bruised face.

Schlange suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was hospitalized following the attack. gofundme
After being tackled to the ground, Schlange attempted to shield himself but was repeatedly struck down by the young assailant.

Pastor Robert McDaniel, who filmed the appalling scene, indicated that the teenager lost control when he was informed that his ticket was invalid for the seat he was occupying. “Immediately he just completely lost it,” McDaniel relayed.

Antonio Clayter, the sole bystander who intervened during the beating, described the attacking teen’s reaction as him “spazzing out.” The minor faces one felony assault charge along with a misdemeanor assault charge. Missouri state law dictates that hearings concerning the case are not open to the public, officials have confirmed.
