Teen Charged in Connection with West Loop to Humboldt Park Crime Spree
A 16-year-old boy has been charged in connection with two robberies that took place during a crime spree spanning from the West Loop to Humboldt Park late last year.
Chicago police officers apprehended the teen at the county’s juvenile justice center on Thursday, as stated in a CPD release.
One of the incidents occurred around 3:45 p.m. on December 29, where four individuals in their teens or early 20s emerged from a white SUV and robbed a 27-year-old man of his AirPods and phone in the 1200 block of West Fulton Market.
The same teen is also accused of participating in another robbery that occurred about 40 minutes later. In this incident, three masked men in a white vehicle, believed to be a Volkswagen Tiguan with Florida license plates, robbed a 35-year-old man at gunpoint while he was loading his car in an alley behind the 1900 block of West Division.
Several similar robberies were reported in the area on the same afternoon.
At 2:40 p.m., in the vicinity of Augusta and Pulaski, four men dressed in all black robbed a street vendor of his wallet after jumping out of a blue sedan.
About 10 minutes later, three masked men armed with guns exited a blue Hyundai with Georgia license plates to rob another man near the corner of Division and Damen in Wicker Park. The Hyundai was later found abandoned around 4 p.m. in the 500 block of North Albany.
At approximately 4 p.m., three masked men armed with at least one firearm attacked a man from behind near the corner of Chicago Avenue and Ada Street. The victim was pistol-whipped and punched, but the suspects did not manage to steal any of his belongings.
As of now, no charges have been announced in connection with the additional three robberies.
