The early morning hours in Brooklyn took a dangerous turn when two NYPD officers were injured in a hit-and-run incident involving a Mercedes driver. The incident occurred at West 8th Street and Quentin Road in Gravesend, where the driver of a gray Mercedes C300 ran a red light, catching the attention of the vigilant officers.

As the officers approached the vehicle to conduct a traffic stop, the driver unexpectedly reversed, striking both officers before fleeing the scene. Both officers sustained minor injuries, with one injuring his leg and the other his foot. They were promptly taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Hours later, the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Anas Rao from Flatlands, was apprehended by the police. Rao now faces multiple charges, including two counts of assault, two counts of reckless endangerment, possession of a forged instrument, vehicular assault, and two counts of obstruction of governmental administration. Surprisingly, this was Rao’s first encounter with law enforcement, as confirmed by the NYPD.

The reckless actions of Rao not only endangered the lives of the officers but also highlighted the dangers faced by law enforcement officers on a daily basis. This incident serves as a reminder of the risks and challenges that officers face while ensuring public safety.
