The Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) suffered their second consecutive defeat in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). The three-time IPL champions were defeated by the SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 65 runs at Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 2.
Both teams had contrasting experiences. While the Knight Riders remain winless, the SunRisers achieved their first victory, aided by a stronger bowling effort and the resurgence of their openers.
Here we highlight two players who made a significant impact and one who struggled in the KKR vs SRH match.
Star – Harsh Dubey

Harsh Dubey’s contribution might not be fully reflected in the scorecard. When Heinrich Klaasen was struggling with his timing, Dubey hit a couple of crucial boundaries that pushed SRH to a competitive total.
In the second innings, Dubey delivered two powerplay overs with excellent control. He dismissed the aggressive Finn Allen with a remarkable caught-and-bowled and kept the other KKR batters in check. Without the left-arm spinner’s efforts, Ishan Kishan would have had fewer reliable options during the powerplay.
Flop – Ajinkya Rahane

KKR’s captain, Ajinkya Rahane, was outspoken in a press conference, criticizing his detractors. However, he must confront the reality of his weakness against spin, which complicates Kolkata’s team dynamics.
While Rahane excels against pace, he has a known vulnerability to Jaydev Unadkat, who once again got the better of him. Rahane’s struggles during the powerplay were evident, and his performance in the field was unusually lackluster.
Star – Travis Head

Travis Head’s explosive start was pivotal in SRH’s victory. The aggressive opener took on Vaibhav Arora, giving his team a rapid start and putting KKR under immediate pressure.
Head’s performance forced Rahane to introduce Varun Chakaravarthy early in the powerplay, only for Abhishek Sharma to capitalize on the situation. From that point, the Knight Riders found themselves trailing in the first innings.
