Over two dozen tenants were evacuated from a north Aurora apartment building on Friday night due to a fire that broke out inside a ground-level unit.
Aurora Fire Rescue spokesperson Eric Hurst mentioned on Saturday morning that some of the displaced residents, including 19 adults and five children, may be allowed to return later in the day, pending assessment of smoke damage caused by the fire, the cause of which is still being investigated.
According to a news release from the agency, firefighters responded to the complex in the 1400 block of North Kingston Street around 9:40 p.m. after receiving reports of flames and individuals trapped inside.
The fire was successfully contained within 20 minutes, and Hurst stated that firefighters assisted in evacuating two individuals. Additionally, two people received medical treatment on-site for smoke inhalation.
The affected tenants are currently receiving support from the American Red Cross, as mentioned in the agency’s release.
