Summer is a season that brings warmth, sunshine, and a lot of fun outdoor activities. It’s a time for travel, festivals, barbecues, and splashing in the pool. Teachers and kids especially look forward to summer as it provides a much-needed break from school. As the days get longer and brighter, trees and flowers are in full bloom, and animals are active all around us.

Here are some fun and fascinating facts about summer that you can share with your students to help them relate to the changes in the world around them:

1. Summer is the warmest season of the year. States like Florida, Texas, Arizona, Louisiana, Mississippi, and Nevada experience the hottest summers.

2. The first official day of summer is called the summer solstice, which falls on June 20 or 21. It is the longest day and shortest night of the year.

3. During summer, there are more hours of lightness than darkness. This is because the Earth is tilted closest to the sun during this season.

4. The hottest temperature ever recorded on Earth was 134°F in Death Valley, California, on July 10, 1913.

5. When it is summer in the Northern Hemisphere, it is winter in the Southern Hemisphere. This is because the hemispheres receive more direct sunlight at different times of the year.

6. Alaska experiences only a few hours of darkness in the summer, with some areas where the sun does not set at all.

7. Polar days, where there is no darkness, occur in areas far north like Norway, Sweden, Canada, Greenland, and Russia.
