After nine seasons in Major League Baseball, three-time All-Star Whit Merrifield has officially announced his retirement. The versatile player, who has played for the Royals, Blue Jays, Phillies, and Braves, expressed his gratitude towards his fans and the teams he played for in his retirement letter.

Merrifield revealed that his decision to retire came after the birth of his daughter, which shifted his focus towards his family. Despite leading the MLB in hits during the 2018-19 season, he expressed his frustration at not being able to bring a championship to any of the cities he played for.

In his retirement letter, Merrifield reflected on the things he will miss the most after leaving the game, including the camaraderie with his teammates, the adrenaline of game day, and the bond formed in the locker room. He also acknowledged the support of his close circle of believers who always stood by him.

Throughout his career, Merrifield recorded 17.8 bWAR in 1,147 games, with most of his time spent with the Kansas City Royals. He singled out the Philadelphia Phillies in his letter, expressing regret for not performing better for the team.

Looking ahead, Merrifield expressed his excitement at sharing his baseball stories with his daughter and passing on the lessons he learned during his career. He thanked the Kansas City Royals, Toronto Blue Jays, and Atlanta Braves for being a part of his journey and for the love and support they showed him.

As Whit Merrifield bids farewell to the game he loves, he leaves behind a legacy of hard work, determination, and perseverance. His impact on the field will be remembered by fans and teammates alike, and his presence will be missed in the world of baseball.
