Thirteen People Shot in Chicago Over the Weekend, Four Fatally

Over the weekend, Chicago experienced a surge in gun violence with thirteen individuals falling victim to shootings, four of whom tragically lost their lives. This marked the most violent weekend since 2017, as reported by HeyJackass, an organization that meticulously tracks incidents of violence in the city using a combination of official reports and open-source data.

The victims, comprising 12 males and one female, spanned from a 1-year-old child to a 63-year-old adult.

10:01 p.m. | 900 block of West 63rd Parkway

A 36-year-old man was fatally shot in the neck and head. Witnesses reported a man exiting a white sedan, opening fire, and subsequently fleeing the scene in the same vehicle.

10:01 p.m. | 7100 block of South Jeffery Boulevard

A 43-year-old man was discovered with a gunshot wound to his upper back. He was rushed to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, unable to provide any details regarding the shooting.

10:09 p.m. | 8800 block of South Lowe Avenue

A 37-year-old man was found inside a vehicle with two gunshot wounds to the chest. Despite efforts to save him, he succumbed to his injuries at Christ Medical Center. Police suspect multiple assailants who fled on foot after the attack.

2:45 a.m. | 1400 block of South Morgan Street

A 32-year-old woman sustained a gunshot wound to her arm while traveling in a vehicle. The assailant, believed to be in a white SUV, fired at her car. She was hospitalized in stable condition.

11:15 a.m. | 3600 block of West 25th Street

A 27-year-old man was shot in the knee following a brief interaction with an individual in a dark-colored SUV. He was taken to Christ Medical Center in good condition.

2:08 p.m. | 7700 block of South Yates Boulevard

A tragic incident unfolded when a 1-year-old boy was shot in the right leg and rushed to Comer Children’s Hospital in critical condition. Authorities have not provided any leads on the shooter.

5:49 p.m. | 3800 block of West 26th Street

A robbery at a jewelry store turned fatal as an armed man shot and killed a 63-year-old father and his 25-year-old son during a struggle outside the shop. The perpetrator escaped in a white SUV heading south on Springfield Avenue.

12:30 a.m. | 5600 block of South Western Avenue

A 28-year-old man, traveling in a vehicle, was grazed in the back by gunfire from three individuals standing on the curb. He received treatment at the University of Chicago Medical Center and was reported to be in good condition.

3:15 a.m. | 6500 block of West Fullerton Avenue

A 27-year-old man fell victim to a robbery and was shot in the leg and abdomen. He was transported to Loyola University Medical Center in fair condition, while the assailant managed to flee the scene.

3:29 a.m. | 4000 block of West Chicago Avenue

A 29-year-old man sustained multiple gunshot wounds while in a vehicle. He was unable to provide details of the incident and is currently hospitalized in serious condition.

8:49 a.m. | 5800 block of South Maryland Avenue

A 20-year-old man arrived at a hospital with a gunshot wound to his foot, unable to recall where the shooting occurred. He received treatment and was discharged in good condition.

2:55 p.m. | 6100 block of South Kedzie Avenue

A 22-year-old man, standing near a vehicle, was shot in the leg by an unknown assailant firing from a concealed location. He drove himself to Mount Sinai Hospital and is listed in good condition.
